How to Dress for Italy in Fall
- 1-2 x flats: Choose some options that are comfortable to walk in. If you’re tight on space just take one pair of flats, and one pair of boots, or ditch the boots if visiting warmer areas
- 1 pair of boots: If visiting colder areas of Italy, especially if frequenting the alps
- 1 pair of sneakers if planning on doing hikes, alternatively find a pair of boots that can be used for hiking and look stylish
- 2-5 x socks: if taking sneakers and depending on how often you’ll wear them
- 1x woollen hat / beanie

- 6-9 pairs of underwear

- Cardigan / sweater x 1-2

When to Visit Italy: Weather and Seasons
Italy is a beautiful country in any season or weather. But, the weather varies from the north part of the country to the south. The climate in the north of the country is mostly harsh with very cold winters and hot summers. Conversely, on the southern part, winter is not too harsh and the summer is better off. Central Italy is neutral with the climate being mild but it has longer summers.
Nonetheless, tourists are able to visit all year round and enjoy watching the breathtaking landscapes as well as the historical architectures.
Spring in Italy (March, April, and May)
Spring is the best time of the year in Italy. The temperature is 15 to 20C / 59-68 F with the countryside starting to bloom the citrus, fig, olive among other fruits. With the flowers fully bloomed, the countryside looks colorful and attractive. Note that, most locals dress according to the season, not the weather. Thus, if you want to fit in, carry some bright, but warm clothes for the spring season.
Summer in Italy (June, July, and August)
Italy is hot in the summer with July and August being the hottest. The average temperature during this period is 25 to 30C / 77-86F with the southern part almost reaching 40C / 104F. Because the country is situated in the Mediterranean Sea, the heat in Italy goes beyond many summers experienced in the northern hemisphere. To stay cool at all times, pack light clothes and hats and don’t forget to carry sunscreen whenever you go.
Fall in Italy (September, October, and November)
Fall is the most preferred season to visit in Italy. However September does not cool immediately as its still warm as August, though the evenings are cooler than in the summer season. The weather changes in October and it starts feeling like Fall, but by November the rains start to pour on and off. The average temperature is 20C / 68F, and due to these changes in weather its advisable to pack light and warm clothes during this time.
Winter in Italy (December, January, and February)
Winter in Italy is very different from other seasons in the country. The air temperature varies depending on the different regions and range from on average between below zero in the mountains up to 15C/ 58F elsewhere.
